A 79-year-old man and 80-year-old woman found dead in their Burbank home both were shot and stabbed, and their deaths have been ruled homicides after Thursday autopsies, authorities said.
The victims, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Peter Mountain and Sally Lopez, were found unresponsive in a bedroom, according to police.
A relative called police to the home in the 6400 block of West 83rd Place about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Burbank police said. Officers found no sign of forced entry, and authorities said they did not believe the shootings were a random act and burglary or robbery was not a motive.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lopez family, as they leave behind several children,” police said in a statement.
Mountain died of multiple gunshot wounds and an incise wound to the neck, while Lopez suffered multiple gunshot wounds, incise wounds, and blunt force trauma to the head, the medical examiner’s office said.
Burbank police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force have more than 40 investigators working the case and are “using every investigative tool available,” the statement said.
