Palos Park gallery to help shoot for art world record

Anyone who likes to paint or draw is invited to be part of what organizers hope will be the world’s largest display of environmental art for Earth Day 2013.
The McCord Gallery and Cultural Center, 9602 West Creek Road, Palos Park, will host a free day of art from 1 to 5 p.m. March 17 in an effort to collect 100 pieces of artwork for this display. The goal of the project — sponsored by the Environmental Hall of Fame — is to increase environmental awareness and make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the world’s largest such display.
Artists should use an 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of paper, and create a work of art representing anything related to the environment: weather, flowers, trees, farms, forests, parks, gardens, lakes and animals.
Pencil, pen, colored markers, crayons, watercolors, acrylics, oils and charcoal all are acceptable.
Artwork also can be dropped off at the McCord Gallery during regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, through March 31.
The McCord staff will deliver the art to the main event April 21 at the Menomonee Club, 1535 N. Dayton, Chicago.
