A former Cook County man is suing Thornton Township High School District 205, claiming a teacher at a vocational school sexually abused him when he was a student in the late 1970s.
The plaintiff, named only as John Doe, filed the suit Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court against the school district and current District 205 Supt. John Thomas.
The teacher of a machine drafting class at the vocational school fondled the victim on numerous occasions when he was enrolled in 1978 and 1979, according to the lawsuit. It says the plaintiff repressed memories of the abuse.
The suit accuses the school district of covering up the behavior of the teacher and failing to protect the student, who has since suffered severe emotional distress and other psychological injuries because of the sexual abuse.
District 205 officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
