A jury on Friday awarded $8 million to the family of a Homewood woman who was fatally struck by a truck while checking a flat tire on the Tri-State Tollway three years ago, the family attorneys announced.
Stacey McHale pulled her vehicle onto the shoulder of Interstate 294 to check the tire and was standing on the shoulder when a semi truck struck her on Feb. 15, 2010, according to a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court by her estate.
McHale, 36, was a wife and mother of a 12-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son, the attorneys said. She also was the coach of her daughter’s soccer team and drove her son to his hockey games and practices.
The suit was filed against Transfreight, LLC; Kiswani Trucking, and Russell A. Kleppe, the driver of the truck.
A Kiswani spokesman declined to comment. Transfreight was unavailable for comment.
