Blue Island man faces child porn, weapons charges

A Blue Island man faces felony child pornography and weapons charges for allegedly having child pornography, a gun and ammunition at his home.

Kirk Watson, 56, of the 2600 block of Grove Street, was charged with felony child pornography (still images by computer), and two counts of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to a release from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

His bail was set Friday at $250,000 by Judge James Rhodes at the Markham courthouse.

Blue Island police arrested Watson on Thursday after an investigation into people searching for and downloading suspected child pornography, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Officers searched his home and recovered four desktop computers, a laptop computer and several DVDs. Analysis found numerous files depicting child pornography on the laptop computer, the state’s attorney’s office said. The images included children under the age of 13 engaged in sex acts.

Watson has a prior conviction for aggravated criminal sexual assault, the state’s attorney’s office said. He is next due in court May 31.

Investigators also discovered a .22-caliber revolver with 200 live rounds of ammunition as well as 10 live rounds of .45-caliber ammunition.
