A funeral Mass will be said Thursday for the dead newborn boy found earlier this month inside a cooler at a recycling plant in Chicago Ridge.
The Mass is to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Ridge Catholic Church, 10811 S. Ridgeland Ave., Chicago Ridge.
The Rev. Wayne Svida and the Rev. George Omwando, of St. Catherine of Siena in Oak Park, will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6002 W. 111th St., near Alsip.
Rest in His Arms and the Chicago Ridge Police Department made the arrangements. Rest in His Arms has provided services for at least 17 other abandoned infants since 2005 in the Chicago area.
The boy’s body was found at the recycling plant early May 1. His body was with refuse collected in North Chicago, Waukegan and Pleasant Prairie, Wis. No arrests have been made.
“Everyone is welcome to attend and help us give His little angel a glorious send-off back home to the open arms of our loving Father,” Susan Walker, president of Rest in His Arms, said Monday in a prepared statement.
Police said the boy has been named Jeremiah Michael. Donna Betsanes, administrative assistant to the police chief, said last week that “Michael” is the patron saint of police, and “Jeremiah” means “God will set you free.”
