The grandson of a Will County Board member on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to theft charges in Will County court.
Nicholas R. Moustis, 23, of 21349 S. 80th Ave., Frankfort, faces one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count of theft.
A judge ordered a special prosecutor to handle the case because Moustis is the grandson of county board member Jim Moustis, who also is Frankfort Township supervisor.
Nicholas Moustis, who is next due in court Aug. 7, is accused of taking between $500 and $10,000 from Mazher Kahn, an employee of MAK Distributors, in Mokena, on May 1.
Pervaiz Akhtar, who was Moustis’ supervisor at MAK Distributors, told the Joliet Herald-News that surveillance cameras captured Moustis allegedly taking a $3,600 payment from a customer, pocketing it, then promptly quitting his job.
“He wrote down on a letter that he quit and don’t try to contact him or he’s going to call police,” Akhtar said.
Moustis had been working for the cigarette wholesale distributor for about a year, Akhtar said.
