New Lenox has even more road projects underway than it first expected, Mayor Tim Baldermann told the village board Monday.
Originally, it expected to repair about six miles of roads. Now, due to the economy and lower costs, the village was able to stretch the same funds to repair seven miles of roads, the mayor said.
The added benefit is that the roads being improved are local roads in neighborhoods. Last year, the budget was spent on a large project on Pine Street.
Now, the roads being fixed are primarily subdivisions, including Aerohaven, Fieldstone, Eagle Estates and Windemere East and West, according to village engineer Will Nash.
Baldermann credited Nash for getting more roads repaired. Not only will the improvements increase the quality of life to people living in those areas, they also will improve property values, the mayor said.
