The body of an Oak Lawn man who vanished in June after taking a hike in a Cook County forest preserve was found Tuesday, hanging from a tree, according to Oak Lawn police.
Algimantas Bauza, 58, of the 9500 block of Mansfield Avenue, went for a walk June 29 in the County Lane Woods Forest Preserve near 95th Street and LaGrange Road and did not return, police said.
A woman walking her dog in the forest preserve spotted the body and contacted the Cook County Forest Preserve District police, according to Oak Lawn police Division Chief Mike Kaufmann. Bauza was identified from dental records, police said.
The victim’s son had told police that his father routinely went to the forest preserve to exercise. He said his father had never gone missing before and did not make any statements about harming himself.
But police said at the time he disappeared that Bauza recently had started taking medication for depression.
Police searched the forest preserves for Bauza for several days after his car was found June 29 in the County Lane Woods parking lot, about eight hours after he had left home.
