Christine Wiseman, president of St. Xavier University, recently was appointed by Gov. Pat Quinn to serve as an acting member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
Wiseman began her four-year term Wednesday, according to the university, although the state board said the appointment of Wiseman and three other acting members requires Senate approval.
The higher education board oversees programs, activities and policies related to colleges and universities within the state.
Wiseman will serve as the representative of a private university.
She became St. Xavier’s president in May 2010, and previously served as provost and a professor of law at Loyola University in Chicago. Wiseman also now serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities.
