A Matteson man seen with an air rifle at a Park Ridge park last week was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after police said his actions caused concern among the crowd.
Shaun Phillips, 20, of the 800 block of University Avenue, was taken into custody on the afternoon of Aug. 9 after police responding to a call at Hinkley Park allegedly found an air rifle with a scope inside Phillips’ vehicle.
A 16-year-old Park Ridge boy told police that Phillips had been carrying what looked like a large rifle in his backpack and was telling everyone it was a sniper rifle, Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen said. The teenager “was alarmed and scared and didn’t know if (the rifle) was real or not,” Jogmen said.
Phillips also was charged with prohibited possession of an air rifle, police said. He was released on his own recognizance and assigned an Oct. 9 court date.
