A 51-year-old New Lenox man died early Saturday after his vehicle overturned near the intersection of Delaney and Schoolhouse roads in Manhattan Township, the Will County coroner’s office said.
Richard W. Schroeder was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m. at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, the coroner’s office said.
An autopsy determined Schroeder died from multiple injuries received in the crash, the coroner’s office said.
An investigation by Will County sheriff’s police determined that Schroeder was driving west on Delaney when he lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road, Lt. Steve Talmontas said.
“He left the road, drove on a grassy area, crossed Schoolhouse and then hit a ditch, which caused the vehicle to overturn. He was ejected and was trapped underneath,” Talmontas said Saturday.
The sheriff’s department was alerted about the accident at 2:05 a.m., he said.
Police did not know whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, pending a toxicology report, he said.
Arrangements are pending at O’Neil Funeral Home, 1105 E. Ninth St., Lockport.
