The 7th annual Attack ACC Family Fun Run/Walk will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 7 at the Hickory Creek Junction in Mokena.
Registration is being accepted online at www.attackacc.org/walkregister.htm.
All proceeds will be used to research treatments and a cure for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare, slow-growing cancer that mainly strikes the head and neck areas, occurs mostly in women and has no known treatment.
Attack ACC was started by Alicia Almanza, of Mokena, to raise awareness of the disease and raise money for research at the University of Virginia. Almanza has battled ACC for more than 20 years.
According to the Illinois State Cancer Registry, 225 cases of ACC were reported in Illinois between 2003 and 2007.
About 5,000 people have the disease in the United States.
Entry fee for the fun run/walk is $25 for adults and $10 for children and students. The run starts at 10 a.m. and the walk at 10:30 a.m.
The event will include raffles, music, food, facepainting, a moonwalk and clowns. More information is at (708) 479-3995 or (708) 668-6859.
