Work has begun on the site of a new $11.2 million, 31,000-square-foot police station in New Lenox.
The village swapped its existing police station on Haven Avenue for land owned by the New Lenox Community Park District on Veterans Parkway.
When complete, the facility will feature a state-of-the-art, multipurpose and training room, and staff areas for code enforcement, investigations and command staff, according to the website of the developer, Leopardo.
New detention facilities will include an enclosed, secure sally port, detention block, DUI processing area, interview rooms and juvenile detention area, the website said.
