CRETE TOWNSHIP — The driver in a single-vehicle crash that killed his passenger Sunday night has been arrested.
After Luis Guadarrama, 34, of 5318 S. Laramie Ave. in Chicago, was discharged from the hospital Thursday, he was arrested on charges of reckless homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to report an accident involving injury or death and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to State Police Capt. Cindy Benson.
About 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Guadarrama and Leonel Tavira, 28, of Addison, were riding in Guadarrama’s 2006 Land Rover on northbound Illinois 394.
Guadarrama lost control of the vehicle in the construction zone a quarter-mile north of Cottage Grove Avenue near Balmoral Park, police said.
Tavira was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:18 a.m. Monday. Traffic was closed on Illinois 394 for several hours, according to reports.
