Bridgework to disrupt Metra Rock Island line service Sunday
September 19, 2013 6:36PM
Commuters from towns southwest of Blue Island who plan to take Metra Rock Island District trains into Chicago on Sunday or Oct. 6 will have to transfer to a Metra Electric District train at the Vermont Street station in Blue Island, according to a news release from Metra.
Extra trains will take passengers from there to the 18th Street, Museum Campus, Van Buren and Millennium stations, Metra said. They also will make the reverse trip from the Millennium station to Blue Island, according to Metra.
Passengers who start out north of Blue Island can get downtown by taking outbound trains to the Blue Island station and transferring to the Metra Electric District trains.
There will be no service to and from the LaSalle Street and 35th Street stations during the shutdowns.
The service disruption is temporary and is due to needed bridgework at 60th and 66th streets along the Rock Island District line, Metra said.
Service on the Rock Island District line into Chicago is scheduled to resume after 6 p.m. on each of the affected days, Metra said.
About 1,800 inbound passengers and about 1,000 outbound passengers normally ride on the affected Sunday trains on the Rock Island line, Metra said.
