Police probe security guard death

South Holland Police said they were investigating the death Thursday of security guard at Thornwood High School who died after trying to break up a fight between two students at the school.
Police said an autopsy was pending into the death of the security guard who was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m. at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, Richard Cowser, 54, of South Holland, died of unknown causes at the school.
Security officers responded early afternoon to a fight between two female students in a hallway in the school, 17101 S. Park Ave., police said in a news release.
As officers tried to break up the fight, one of them fell against a locker and was injured, according to the release. South Holland paramedics were initially called to help the guard, who was unconscious and having trouble breathing, police said.
Police said they were interviewing the students involved in the fight, as well as witnesses to the altercation.
