The state child welfare agency is investigating the death Wednesday of a 7-year-old Oak Forest girl, but police say there are no signs of criminal activity in her death.
Bailee Zaker, of the 15000 block of Aspen Court, collapsed Wednesday and was taken to Palos Community Hospital, where she died at 2:21 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The child was breathing when police and an ambulance arrived, police said.
An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive, with results pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the girl’s baby sitter and mother for allegations of abuse and neglect, DCFS spokeswoman Karen Hawkins said.
She said Bailee’s only sibling has been placed with a relative under a DCFS-monitored safety plan.
The agency had no prior reports involving the family, Hawkins said.
