Lighting started a fire in the attic of a Plainfield Township house on Saturday, a fire official said.
The Lockport Fire Department responded to the call at 21741 Juneau Drive at 3:49 p.m. as heavy thunderstorms were crossing the area.
The attic of the house was soon engulfed in flames, Deputy Fire Chief John Kure said. The fire was contained to the attic. But heavy water damage made the rest of the house uninhabitable.
An investigation into the fire determined it was caused by lightning, Kure said.
Kure said Weber Road was “almost completely impassable” for trucks on the way to the fire because of high standing water, stalled cars, and blown-over construction barrels at Grand Haven Blvd.
