An elderly woman was treated for minor injuries Thursday afternoon after she accidentally drove her sport utility vehicle into Orland Park’s main post office, authorities said.
Police and Orland Fire Protection District firefighters arrived at the post office, 9500 W. 144th Place, about 1:10 p.m., according to district spokesman Ray Hanania.
He said the woman pulled into a parking space and pressed on the accelerator rather than the brakes, sending the Lexus SUV through the post office’s front window and into the lobby.
Two people were inside the post office at the time, and one of them, a woman, was taken to Palos Community Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Hanania said.
He said firefighters inspected the damage to the building, concluding there was no major structural damage to make it unsafe.
Orland Park police spokesman, Cmdr. John Keating, could not be reached Thursday afternoon.
