New Lenox residents will get back more property taxes than the past three years.

Mayor Tim Baldermann announced a 60 percent rebate to homeowners who qualify. Residents should expect applications in the mail this week.

In order to qualify, homeowners must return a completed application along with copies of the property tax bill and drivers license front and back. It is due by Monday Dec. 16 with no extensions.

The homeowner must have lived in the home all of 2012 without receiving any rental income, and is currently living in the house. Also, the property owner must have no outstanding bills with the village, including speeding tickets or other violations.

The amount of the rebate has nearly doubled since 2009 when the program began at 33 percent. Baldermann said the village also has eliminated the village sticker and pet tags without eliminating any services.

Anyone who does not receive an application this week should contact village hall, which is open until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
