A Cedar Lake, Ind., man accused of hitting his 5-year-old son with a vehicle while driving drunk this summer has pleaded guilty and sentenced to two years of probation.
John P. Green, 40, was charged in July with aggravated battery to a child, aggravated domestic battery, driving under the influence, aggravated reckless driving and two counts of domestic battery.
Green pleaded guilty in Will County Circuit Court on Nov. 25, to one felony count of reckless conduct and was sentenced to probation.
Will County sheriff’s police said that about 7:30 a.m. on July 12, Green got into a physical fight with his father-in-law in front of a residence in the 23600 block of Ashland Avenue in Crete Township.
Green then got inside a Jeep and drove through the yard and onto the patio, hitting the boy and a tree, police said.
A relative then got into a fight with Green, police said, until a second relative got a baseball bat and hit Green until Green got off the man.
The relative with whom Green fought suffered a broken wrist, authorities said. The 5-year-old suffered blunt head trauma but was expected to make a full recovery.
