Orland Township residents can apply for energy bill assistance from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 8 at the township office, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park.
Southeast CEDA (Community Economic Development Association) is organizing the event and will provide information and applications for its Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program Direct Vendor Payment and LIHEAP Furnace programs.
The DVP program assists income-eligible households with one-time benefit payments directly to utility companies during the winter months. Amounts are determined by income level, household size and fuel type.
The furnace program is available only to homeowners or landlords residing at a property with an inoperable heating system.
To apply for either program, residents must bring Social Security cards for all household members, proof of gross income from the last 30 days for all household members 18 and older, and a current gas and/or light bill. Applicants whose utilities are included in the rent must bring proof of the rental agreement, monthly rental amount and landlord contact information.
Applicants for the furnace program also must bring a current mortgage statement or property tax bill.
