An Orland Park police sergeant was injured Wednesday when his squad was rear-ended at 80th Avenue and Wheeler about noon, police said.
The officer and the driver of the other vehicle, a 70-year-old Tinley Park man, were taken to Palos Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Cmdr. John Keating.
The Orland Park police dispatch center received a 911 call from a citizen at 12:01 p.m. reporting the accident. A sergeant in a fully marked Orland Park police sport utility vehicle, heading north on 80th Avenue, was stopped at the red light at Wheeler Drive when a 2003 Mercury Marquis rear-ended him, according to Keating.
The impact forced the SUV through the intersection before coming to rest. The crash remains under investigation by the Orland Park police. No charges have been filed.
