Country Club Hills police said Tuesday they have charged the husband with first degree murder in the death of his wife.

Taft Hayden, 47, of 4558 W. 179th St., had been taken into custody Sunday after Country Club Hills police and fire personnel had responded to a 911 call at that address from Hayden. The Cook County medical examiner’s office had determined that 42-year-old Mary Hayden had died from a severe blow to her head.

Police said that Taft Hayden called for an ambulance at about 8:17 a.m. Sunday, telling a dispatcher his wife had fallen. Along with the fire department, police were sent to the home as well because police in the past had responded to “numerous” domestic disturbance calls at the home, according to a police news release.

Fire department personnel determined Mary Hayden was dead at the scene but determined the circumstances were“suspicious,” according to the release. Taft Hayden was then taken into police custody.

The couple have two children — an 8-year-old son and a daughter, 11 — according to public records.
