HOMER GLEN — Three people were hospitalized after icy roads led to a two-car crash on New Year’s Day.
A 2008 Dodge Avenger traveling east on 143rd Street slid sideways near Saddlebrook Road about 1 p.m. and was struck by a 2013 Kia Rio, Will County sheriff’s police spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
She said the impact pushed the Avenger into a ditch where it struck a tree. The driver, an 18-year-old Orland Park man, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was listed in critical condition, according to Hoffmeyer.
She said the Kia driver, a 26-year-old Homer Glen woman, was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for examination and was not injured, but her sister, 24, also went to Christ after sustaining back and knee injuries.
Hoffmeyer said a second passenger, a 27-year-old Massachusetts woman, was taken to Silver Cross with broken ribs and possible internal injuries. The three women were wearing seat belts, she said.
