Garbage disposal companies expect to begin picking up garbage and recycling again Tuesday.
Garbage pickups by Waste Management are running one day late thoughout the Chicago area because of the severe winter weather that hit the region. The company will resume garbage collection with the same kind of schedule used for Monday holidays, Waste Management spokeswoman Lisa Disbrow said.
“It’s a one-day delay just like the holiday,” Disbrow said.
Disbrow said Waste Management expected to be able to resume garbage collection on Tuesday and that the company would make an announcement if that changes.
Temperatures are expected to remain below zero Tuesday morning, but conditions will not be as severe as Monday, according to forecasts.
Waste Management on Sunday announced its plan to delay garbage collection, noting that the plan would allow more room for snow plows to clear streets on Monday.
Homewood Disposal also said pickups would be delayed one day this week, and a news release from the village of Mokena said that NuWay Disposal also would operate on a delayed schedule this week. Christmas tree pickup will be offered as part of this week’s Wednesday collection by NuWay in Mokena, the release said.
