Man dies after train-van collision in Robbins

A Chicago man who drove a van around the crossing gates and was struck by a Metra train Tuesday in Robbins died early Wednesday, officials said.
Emmanuel Allen, 42, of the 600 block of East 83rd Street, was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island after the accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was then transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office said.
Outbound Rock Island District train No. 509 hit the van about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday at the Robbins station near 139th Street and Utica Avenue, according to Metra.
None of the 30 passengers on the train was injured, according to the Robbins Fire Department.
Metra police are investigating.
