A Palos Heights man was arrested for trying to lure a 17-year-old girl into his car last week in southwest suburban Oak Lawn as she walked home from school.
The girl was on Kilpatrick Avenue near 92nd Street on Jan. 13 when Terrence P. Loftus allegedly drove up to her and asked her if she needed a ride, Oak Lawn police said in a release.
She said no but Loftus kept following her, trying to continue the conversation and motioning for her to get in the car, police claim.
The girl locked herself in her house, and memorized the license plate of the blue-grey Chrysler 4-door vehicle, which was registered to Loftus’s 86-year-old mother, the release said.
He was arrested and the girl identified him in a line-up Saturday, police said.
Loftus, 59, of the 6900 block of Highland Drive in Palos Hills, was charged with one count of child abduction, the release said.
Judge Maria Kuriakos-Ciesil ordered Loftus held on $100,000 bond during a hearing Monday, police said.
He will next appear in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
