A Hickory Hills man has been charged with drunken driving after a passenger in his pickup truck was killed in a crash early Thursday on Interstate 80 near Minooka.
Jaroslaw Mietus, 28, was injured in the crash and was charged after being released from an area hospital. He was being held Thursday at the Grundy County Jail.
Illinois State Police said Mietus was driving a Ford pickup westbound on I-80 about 5:25 a.m., when it collided with the rear of a semi truck that was parked on the shoulder.
The pickup then swerved back onto the highway where it struck a Lexus that was traveling westbound, police said.
The passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, who had not released the person’s identity as of Thursday evening.
The drivers of the semi and the Lexus were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
They said all westbound lanes on I-80 were closed for about five hours before reopening.
