Child welfare officials are investigating the death early Monday of a 3-year-old boy from Markham, according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Josiah Arrington, of the 16100 block of Kedzie Avenue, died at 12:15 a.m. at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
DCFS is investigating Josiah’s mother for allegations of neglect, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said.
The agency has a previous unfounded neglect allegation regarding the child from July, Resa said. She said there are no other children in the home.
Police couldn’t immediately provide details on the circumstances surrounding Josiah’s death.
An autopsy Monday returned inconclusive, pending further investigation, according to the medical examiner’s office.
