Midlothian resident MacKenzie Lim is only a freshman at Marist High School, but she already has lived a life well beyond her years.
That’s because she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia last April and is being treated at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.
It’s going to be a long battle for MacKenzie, but not one that she’s fighting alone.
MacKenzie, whose father, Bob, is the athletic director at Marist, will get a chance to see how much the community supports her and her family when the Team Mack Benefit is held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St., Merrionette Park.
Sue Blisk, a family friend who’s organizing the event along with nine other friends close with the Lim family, said she had received 200 pre-orders for tickets as of Wednesday. Blisk said tickets can also be purchased at the door.
“I work with Bob as well, and they (Lim family) are all wonderful and amazing to watch,” Blisk said. “They have tons of friends around them, and we are all here to help.”
MacKenzie is winning her battle, and the fluid in her spine is cancer-free, according to a statement issued by the family.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for individuals 13 and under. Food, wine, beer, soft drinks and water are included in the ticket price. There will also be a raffle and silent auction featuring Bulls, Blackhawks and Chicago Fire tickets.
For more information, call Blisk at (708) 404-8324, Mike Staunton at (708) 217-9553 or Eileen Flores at (708) 220-9019.
Donations are also being accepted at Team Mack, c/o Archer Bank, 3435 W. 111th St., Chicago, IL 60655.
