A Dyer, Ind., woman was killed in a crash with a tanker truck Thursday morning on Illinois 394 near Crete, according to Illinois State Police.
Sarah Sanaghan, 29, of the 500 block of 213th Street, was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, were she was pronounced dead at 6 a.m., the Lake County, Ind., coroner’s office said.
The woman was driving a Chevrolet Cruze west on Burville Road and was stopped at Illinois 394 when she pulled out in front of a southbound semi tanker about 5:40 a.m., state police said.
They said the truck hit the car on the passenger side before striking a light pole on the west side of the highway, rolling on its side and coming to rest in a ditch. No hazardous material was spilled in the crash, and the truck driver was not hurt, police said.
Southbound Illinois 394 and Burville Road were closed for several hours, but both reopened about noon, according to police.
