Funeral arrangements have been made for the four family members who died last week in a triple murder and suicide at an Oak Lawn home.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, for John C. Conta, 67, Janice Conta, 68, and their son, John P. Conta, 36, a funeral director said Monday.
A funeral Mass for the three will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Linus Church, 10300 Lawler Ave., Oak Lawn, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Visitation for Matthew Meier, 5, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Sheehy Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St., Orland Park, an employee said Monday. A funeral service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Living Word Lutheran Church, 16301 Wolf Road, Orland Park. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, a church employee said.
John P. Conta killed his parents and nephew by shooting them Feb. 26, the day after Matthew’s fifth birthday party at the family home in the 9800 block of 51st Avenue, and set the house on fire, police said. They said Conta then killed himself with a gunshot while in a car in the house’s garage.
Matthew was a preschool student.
The elder Contas were very active in St. Linus Church, where Janice worked as a secretary. They were regular patrons of the Oak Lawn Family Restaurant, 5769 W. 95th St., co-owner Tom Klementzos said.
“They were in here all the time. A very nice couple. The little boy, they’d bring him in for breakfast. Sometimes he was still wearing his pajamas,” Klementzos said.
