Woman’s body found in sewer

Updated: April 8, 2014 6:23AM

A woman’s decomposed body was discovered Wednesday morning in a sewer drain pipe in the Morgan Park community on Chicago’s Southwest Side, authorities said.

A city water department employee, checking the sewer line for a leak, found the body wrapped in a plastic bag about 10:45 a.m. near 107th Place and Loomis Street, police said.

The unidentified woman, thought to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. It said an autopsy initially was scheduled for Thursday but was postponed because the body was frozen.

Some residents in the area wondered Thursday whether the body is that of a 30-year-old woman who disappeared in October 2011 after she last was seen leaving her home a few blocks from where the body was discovered, according to news reports.
