A New Lenox woman died Monday afternoon after being struck by a Metra train in the village, authorities said.
Metra halted all trains on the Rock Island Line after an inbound train, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 1:50 p.m., struck the 42-year-old woman about 12:35 p.m. near Vine Street, spokesman Michael Gillis said.
The woman, whose identity was not released Monday, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to New Lenox Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Adam Riegle. Further details were not available Monday night.
The train was canceled, Gillis said, but the next inbound train, scheduled to arrive at the LaSalle Street station at 2:50 p.m., carried passengers from the earlier train and arrived in Chicago about 20 minutes late.
An outbound train, scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 12:51 p.m., was also stopped for the fatality but was on the move again as of 1:10 p.m., according to Metra.
