A man crashed his car multiple times at a car wash before backing it into a retention pond Tuesday afternoon in Homer Glen.

The elderly man, whose exact age was not immediately available, was pulling into the curved driveway of a car wash at South Bell Road and West 151st Street about 1 p.m. when he struck a post, Will County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

The man then backed up from the post, hit the gas while in drive “a little too hard” and hit the closed car wash door, before putting the car in reverse and backing over a retaining wall into a retention pond, Hoffmeyer said.

The car was not submerged, but authorities were called to the scene and pulled the man from the vehicle, Hoffmeyer said. He was “alert and able to walk around” at the scene.

The man was taken in good condition to Silver Cross Hospital, Hoffmeyer said.

The Will County Sheriff’s office is investigating.
