Bell Road widening project could begin in 2015

Updated: April 28, 2014 10:41AM

Will County has been busy making plans to widen Bell Road in Homer Glen, and the village is offering some input on what it wants to see along the road.

The county likely will start construction in 2015 to widen Bell Road to four lanes — two in each direction — from 151st to 159th streets.

The county’s plan will try to lessen the impact on the neighboring Meadowview Estates subdivision by moving the proposed roadway further east, away from the homes, according to village documents. The Will County Department of Highways also is proposing to build a sound wall behind the homes.

The proposed Bell Road improvements are to begin on the south side of 151st Street and continue to just south of the entrance to Bell Tower Plaza, where they will tie into the Illinois Department of Transportation’s proposed 159th Street widening project.

Will County is planning to stripe a median on Bell Road south of Meadowview Lane to accommodate the existing businesses, but will install a barrier median north of Meadowview Lane to 151st Street.

Village trustees would also like to see a sidewalk installed on the west side of Bell Road and have grass or landscaping installed in the barrier medians.
