Fire caused serious damage to a house in Orland Park on Wednesday, but no one was injured, fire officials said.
The Orland Fire Protection District responded about noon to the fire in the 9100 Block of Frances Lane after a passer-by saw the fire and called 911, a district spokesman said.
Heavy smoke was coming from the roof and flames were seen through a second-floor window when firefighters arrived, and they were able to extinguish the fire in a bedroom in about 15 minutes, the spokesman said. He said no one was home at the time.
The fire was contained to the bedroom, but the second floor sustained significant heat and smoke damage and the ground floor moderate smoke damage, according to the spokesman.
He said fire investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical short in a lamp in the bedroom.
