A Chicago Ridge woman was killed Thursday afternoon when the car she was driving slammed into a tree on southbound Ridgeland Avenue, just south of Pamela Lane, according to police.

Cindy Schultz, 52, was taken by ambulance to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died, police said.

Ashraf Abuelhawa, who owns the Al-Tur Market, a Middle Eastern grocery store at 10602 Ridgeland Ave., said he heard the crash about 1:15 p.m..

“It was loud boom. I ran outside with a woman customer,” he said. “We saw a lady ... in the driver’s seat. Her legs were pinned under the steering wheel. Her right leg was bent the wrong way. It looked broken.”

Abuelhawa said the woman was conscious when firefighters arrived and cut the driver’s door open to remove her.

The car was heavily damaged, indicating a severe impact with the tree.

Ridgeland Avenue was closed to southbound traffic between 105th and 106th streets for several hours. Traffic was detoured east on 105th, south on Oxford Avenue and west on 106th back to Ridgeland.

Police were unavailable Thursday night to give details on the accident.
