An 18-year-old former Sandburg High School student and another teen were charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct after they entered the school without permission Wednesday morning and then left as police and school officials searched for them, Orland Park police said.
Ian Sipes, 15151 Harlem Ave., Orland Park, and a 17-year-old Midlothian boy rode a school bus to Sandburg with a friend, who is a Sandburg student, and entered the school along with students, according to police.
They said the officer assigned to Sandburg was notified of the intruders, and other officers responded to the school, 13300 LaGrange Road, apprehending the two teens about 10 a.m. in a parking lot near the school. The two were in the school for about 15 minutes before leaving, police said.
They said the incident prompted a “soft” lockdown at the school, and students were not allowed to move between classrooms and visitors were not allowed into the building while the school was searched by police. One of the intruders was seen looking into a student’s locker by a staff member, police said.
The lockdown ended after the search found nothing suspicious, according to police.
They said the 17-year-old was referred to juvenile court.
