A former Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 volunteer gymnastics coach on Thursday pleaded not guilty in Will County Court to allegedly having sex with a student.
Isaac Kruspe, 20, of 11613 Stephanie Lane, Mokena, has been charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor under the age of 17 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor from a position of trust.
New Lenox police said the victim is a 15-year-old girl whom he coached. Kruspe was arrested March 19.
Prosecutors allege in court records that Kruspe had sex with the girl multiple times between Dec. 1 and March 10.
Kruspe appeared in court Thursday via video feed from the Will County Jail, where he is being held on $250,000 bail.
Kruspe’s next court date is May 15.
Kruspe is a former state champion in the sport for the district’s co-op boys gymnastics team. While a junior at Lincoln-Way East, he won titles in 2010 in three events — floor exercise, still rings and the horizontal bar — but did not compete during his senior year.
District spokeswoman Stacy Holland previously said Kruspe coached in the district co-op gymnastics program from Dec. 13 to March 10. He passed the American Sport Education Program test, received a certificate and passed state and federal criminal background checks, according to Holland.
