An Orland Park man listed as a registered sex offender in Wisconsin has been charged with a felony for failing to register with Illinois authorities, police said Tuesday.

Police said 28-year-old Jonathan Rivera was charged April 14 following an April 6 investigation of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 9800 block of El Cameno Lane in Orland Park.

Police said a background check showed Rivera is registered as a sex offender in Wisconsin, that his status was “compliant,” and the Orland Park address was listed on the Wisconsin sex offender website.

A woman at the home told police that Rivera had been living there for more than a year, Orland Park police said in a news release.

Rivera came to the Orland Park police station April 14, and when asked why he hadn’t registered as a sex offender in Illinois told police he had forgotten to, according to the release. He was taken into custody at the time, police said.

Bail of $100,000 was set for Rivera at a hearing April 15, and his next court date is May 6.
