Racial incident, prank reported in Tinley Park

Updated: May 25, 2014 3:46PM

The mother of a Tinley Park teenager reported that someone scrawled racial slurs on her son’s car when it was parked April 18 outside their home in the Pheasant Chase subdivision, according to police.

The woman said her 18-year-old son is a senior at Andrew High School and of Arab descent.

She told police that she moved the car about 10 p.m., and when she returned to the car about 90 minutes later, the slurs were scrawled in pink chalk on the front passenger and back windows, police said.

They said the woman and her son believe the incident was a high school prank and not a hate crime. Police advised the family to report any future incidents.
