Oak Lawn police on Wednesday were trying to determine who made threats saying there was a student with a gun, and a bomb in a bathroom, at the Community High School District 218 administrative center.

Police responded shortly after noon to the building at 10701 S. Kilpatrick Ave. after a threat said a bomb in a toilet was “set to explode in 10 minutes,” Oak Lawn police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann said. That threat and one about a gunman were false, Kaufmann said.

Someone used the Internet to send the threats to the Oak Lawn emergency call center, he said. The person claimed to be a teacher and gave the name of a student, both of which were fake, Kaufmann said.

Police arrived at 12:17 p.m., evacuated the building as a precaution, searched room by room and left about 1 p.m.

The building also houses a daycare for children of district employees, a special-education adult transition program that provides job-training experiences for special-ed students ages 18 to 22, and the Worth Township Treasurer’s office, School District 218 spokesman Bob McParland said.

Police hope to work with Internet providers to determine who made the threats, Kaufmann said.
