As part of the massive LaGrange Road widening project, 171st Street between LaGrange Road and 94th Avenue will be closed starting June 6, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
The closure is necessary for rebuilding the intersection of 171st and LaGrange, and that section of the street isn’t due to reopen until late June, IDOT said in a news release. It said businesses along the north side of 171st Street in Tinley Park will be accessible.
A posted detour will route traffic onto 167th Street between LaGrange Road and 94th Avenue, IDOT said, and another alternate is 179th Street.
Electronic message signs have advised drivers that the segment of 171st would close June 3 and reopen June 24, but the contractor delayed the start of the closure, according to IDOT.
The $90 million LaGrange Road project will widen the road to three lanes in each direction between 131st and 179th streets. Construction is tentatively scheduled to be completed in July 2015.
