A man charged with defrauding two Orland Park homeowners last year in a home repair scam has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty, Orland Park police said Thursday.

Ricky Ziko, of Berwyn, was arrested in October and charged in two separate incidents where he used a simple mixture of sand and water that he misled homeowners into believing it was a sealant to repair cracks in concrete, police said.

They said an elderly homeowner who contacted police realized that he was being scammed and gave Ziko a small amount of money to get him to leave, fearing he might be harmed.

He gave a description of Ziko’s vehicle to police, and Ziko was arrested in Hickory Hills and admitted to the fraud, police said.

Ziko had pleaded guilty May 20 to the charges.
