Metra will be running the Rock Island line on a new schedule beginning Sunday, June 15. The adjustments to the current schedule are largely being made in order to more accurately match actual operating conditions to scheduled train times, with some trains departing earlier than on the current schedule, according to a press release.
The weekday inbound schedule will see adjustments in 16 train schedules, with the departure times from certain stops or running times between stations altered by up to five minutes. These adjustments come to the Rock Island line in order to reduce conflicts with other trains in the Blue Island area and to better reflect actual operating conditions, according to the release.
Nineteen outbound train schedules are also being adjusted, changes which will be amounting to no more than three minutes earlier or later. Heavy passenger attendance following Chicago White Sox games has also resulted in the adjustment of two late evening trains by seven minutes.
All but the first inbound trains will depart five minutes earlier than on the current Metra weekend schedule, and all outbound trains will arrive five minutes later in Joliet. Weekend adjustments are being made in order to accommodate weekend construction work and to reflect actual conditions, including modifications needed where trains pass each other.
These changes are being implemented in response to a periodic review of train schedules that Metra conducts for each of its lines, the release said. The Rock Island line’s schedules have not been adjusted since 2011.
