Mokena House and Garden Tour set for Saturday

Updated: July 21, 2014 4:10PM

The Mokena House and Garden Tour on Saturday will feature St. Mary’s Catholic Church on its 150th anniversary, but the other homes and gardens it will stop at are still a secret and will be revealed Saturday, spokeswoman Marietta Glass said.

The biannual tour is presented by the Mokena Area Historical Society. Guided tram tours depart from the State Bank of Illinois, 11100 Front St. The first tram leaves at 10 a.m., and the last leaves at 2:30 p.m.

“The trams run continuously in a circle,” Glass said. “It’s really a nice day.”

Participants will receive a book about the tour on the tram and can choose how long to stay at whichever gardens or homes they choose, Glass said.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 19820 Wolf Road; Mokena Village Hall, 11004 Carpenter St.; and the State Bank of Illinois.

The main event sponsors are Pipefitters Local 597 and Berkot’s Super Foods.
