The Orland Fire Protection District said a Wednesday afternoon lightning strike sparked a fire in the attic of a home in the 17500 block of Karli Lane in Orland Park.
The fire district receive a 911 call about 2:20 p.m. The fire was confined to the attic, but an extensive overhaul of the home’s second floor was needed to expose other areas of fire ignited by the lightning bolt as it traveled the pipes and ductwork, the district said in a news release.
Residents were at home at the time, but there were no injuries, the district said.
